IN 2006 Steve Lagos, then owner of Australian Custom Cycles in Melbourne, wanted to build a bike to promote his business. He asked his head mechanic, Dave Lenne, to take on the project.
They ordered a Hellbound frame from the USA. It is steel, five-inches thick at the top tube and eight-inches down to the bottom; it has a 54 degree rake. Dave then had to modify all the suspension mounting points to get the correct stance for the chopper. Billet frame fillers up near the steering neck were made by Steve.
The handlebars were fabricated by Burleigh Bars on the Gold Coast; Dave further customised the bars to take the warning lights.
The front master cylinder is hidden in the front forward control bracket; the brake reservoir was mounted above the gearbox.
The single-sided swingarm was made by RC Components and is really quite trick. Dave added Progressive shocks to the rear and then set about customising the rear fender.
The headlight, triple clamps and front forks come from DNA.
The fuel tank is an off-the-shelf item from Hellbound.
The Sin City Chopper boasts an Ultima clutch, outside bearing support, and four-inch open belt.
“It took the skin of two stingrays to make the custom seat,” said Dave. “We had to get the stingray skin from Darwin.” It was covered by Coverland of Chelsea, Melbourne.
Most of the polishing, and the chroming, was done by Huntingdale in Oakleigh, Melbourne.
The beautiful chick on the back guard is Jessica Alba. The painter was Seb from Mordialloc Body Works in Melbourne. “What a fantastic job he did,” said Dave.
