Harley-Davidson Heavy Duty Fat Boy

SHANE from Heavy Duty Motorcycles built this Fat Boy for himself. He already had a heavily customised Wide Glide but wanted something quite different, more suited to two-up riding for both himself and his wife Caroline.

The Project started as a simple silver stock Fat Boy. A Performance Machine Phatail kit was fitted to bring the rear out to fit the 250 tyre and the front was raked 4-degrees and lengthened 2-inches to set off the look while still retaining the handling that Shane wanted.

Shane decided to go with a H-D Contrast Cut theme and fitted a pair of Roland Sands Design Diesel wheels.

The rear guard was the original H-D widened to fit the big wheel and retain the unmistakable Fat Boy look; the footboards were kept front and rear.

The engine was given the Heavy Duty treatment built mainly for torque. It was fitted with hi-comp 10.5:1 pistons, Screamin’ Eagle heads, 50 mm throttle body and S&S 583 gear drive cams. A ThunderMax autotune EFI module was fitted to extract the most reliable power possible and a set of Rinehart Crossbacks got the spent gasses out with a deep rumble.

Mark Walker from Queensland Panel and Paint then went to work on the tank and guards. He was originally asked to follow a theme of black with a pinstripe and badging. Mark’s response was “Na leave it me,” and the end result is an awesome finish that never fails to turn heads with its embossed H-D Bar and Shields throughout in a deep burgundy and silver leaf pinstriping which blend in perfectly with the Contrast Cut theme.

Burleigh Bars custom made a set of 1.75-inch T-Bars to suit the raked frame and keep the chunky look; and Steve from Roadrunner Seats as always did a great job on a stylish and comfortable seat (with pillion) that looks perfect.

Heavy Duty Motorcycles always use late model Harley-Davidsons as the base for their customs and only use the highest quality parts from a wide range of both Genuine and aftermarket suppliers.
