Perth Charity Ride
Who said bikers aren’t a generous bunch…
I WAS NEW to this ride and didn’t know what to expect — but Hell — I was gobsmacked by the amount of bikers who had arrived early to participate in this fundraising event.
It was a well organised ride that travelled from Belmont Racecourse to Joondalup Showgrounds, about a 30 km ride, and it just happened to be a bloody hot day — high 30’s, nudging 40° C — so the drinks at the end were very welcomed.
Many riders cleverly dressed up their bikes and helmets. A few of the Perth Riders groups dressed their bikes as reindeers and rode them all the way. Even Santa and his sexy elves were spotted riding and were spurred on by the general public. Many bikes, trikes and sidecars were piled up with toys and gifts for the needy.
There were many riding groups showing support such as BACA, Patriots, Open Road, White Line Riders, MRA, as well as many other mates and riders from the general public. They were all there all for the same reason — to donate toys, games, consumables and cash to the Salvos. The Salvos had their trucks waiting at Joondalup Showground and they were surprised by the enormous response from the bikers.
Even Constable Care made a bit of an effort. Well sort of — it was great to go on a run and not be hassled for once, just treated like a normal citizen and not a criminal as is usually the case.
This was a very enjoyable day. It was great to see so many bike riders come together and show we are all human and share a communal bond, no matter what we ride.
