Cash’d Up: a Johnny Cash Themed Chopper
“The result is a machine that perfectly captures its intent — a straightforward street custom with an unmistakable soul,” said Knackers.
THE humble garage has long been a crucible for creativity — a place where casual conversations, often over a few beers, can unexpectedly ignite brilliant ideas. It’s in this spirit of simple, genuine inspiration that some of the most memorable custom bikes are born, and this ‘Johnny Cash’ themed chopper is a perfect testament to that tradition.
The visionary behind this ride is Johnno of Metal Skin Customs (MSC) who brought the project to life with assistance from his friend Donny. A family man by day, Johnno finds his element in the garage, a sanctuary from domestic life where he can transform metal into rolling art. His building philosophy is refreshingly direct — he trusts his instincts, translating ideas from his head into steel with a skilled, no-nonsense approach. This project was guided by a specific budget, a constraint that Johnno embraced as a creative advantage, forcing him to focus on ingenuity over extravagance.

The build began with a Black Rock Choppers (BRC) rigid frame which now cradles a 100-cubic-inch RevTech engine. Enhanced with Andrews cams and fed by a Mikuni 44-mm side-draft carburettor, the power plant has more than enough muscle for a bike this lean. Power is sent through a five-speed Baker gearbox to a BDL open primary drive. The aggressive soundtrack is provided by a custom, heat-wrapped MSC exhaust.
The bike’s aggressive stance comes from a Billy Lane springer front-end, topped with custom MSC drag-bars and a host of Harley-Davidson controls. It rolls on a classic combination of painted-red, chrome-spoked wheels: a 21-inch rim encased with Metzeler rubber; a wider 18-inch rim at the rear was shod with a 200 Avon Venom tyre.

An iconic Orange County Choppers, ribbed, fuel-tank defines the chopper’s clean lines, while a custom rear fender and struts from MSC hugs the back wheel.
With a rigid frame, the twin-sprung, custom leather seat is the only concession to comfort.
The entire build serves as a canvas, coated in high-gloss black paint before being handed over to Ally Mitchell of Airvolution Kustom Arts, whose masterful murals and graphics truly bring the Johnny Cash theme to life.
The result is a machine that perfectly captures its intent — a straightforward street custom with an unmistakable soul. It’s a testament to Johnno’s skill, proving that a clear vision and raw talent are more valuable than an unlimited budget.
