An Orange County Chopper for Bob
Bob wanted a bike that was different from the rest! Orange County Choppers caught his eye.
MEET BOB McKay. Bob is in the business of moving houses. I ain’t talking about packing all your stuff into cardboard boxes and calling a removals mob to shift the lot to a new residence. Bob picks up entire houses and moves the bastards to wherever you want them, or to his holding yard located in Brisbane’s north.
Orange County Choppers (OCC) has been importing a limited range of custom bikes specifically designed for use in Australia’s less than adequate roadways. Basically, a more durable, user-friendly variation of OCC’s now famous customs is available to venture out into our harsh brown landscape and conquer our tax-funded, pot-hole-ridden stretches of tarmac. Bob has always been a Harley enthusiast and has owned his fair share of Milwaukee’s finest but he had the urge to own something a little out of the ordinary. By chance, this OCC Pro-Street model got his attention and it was love at first sight — he had to make it his own.
The bike runs the ever reliable 124 cube S&S which has a ton of grunt. The spent gases exit through a set of Vance & Hines Street Sweepers. The power is fed through to a six-speed Baker box before the ponies are delivered to the rear wheel via a right-hand-side driven belt.
She runs a stretched four gallon fuel tank which is standard equipment on the Pro-Street model.
A 21-inch hoop sits between the front forks and rear wheel is 18 inch with a nice fat low profile 300 mm tyre. Brembo brakes are employed to handle the stopping power.
The paint was laid on by Steel Vision. The final effect — the red outlines on the vivid blue and with the inlaid ghosted skull designs — is almost three dimensional.
Now, it turns out, Bob is a hard bloke to get hold of! He stood still long enough to do the shots on the day of shoot, but since then, he has embarked on an around trip of Australia in a fully decked out Winnebago with a special container attached to the rear so the bike can accompany him and his wife on their Aussie adventure. Other details on the bike are a bit sketchy due to a lack of communication with Bob who at the time of writing this is probably doing a few hot laps of Ayres Rock aboard his shiny custom.
A special mention has to go to our lovely model on the day, the beautiful Charlene. After two failed attempts at doing the shoot (both times our models cancelled at the last minute and Bob was adamant about having a model to pose with his pride and joy), we spotted and asked if she was interested in posing for some shots for Ozbike magazine. Charlene was more than happy to help out and we appreciate the time and effort she put in to make the whole day a success. Thanks again Charlene, you’re a legend!
