The Fire Maker: it’s God’s work

Les is a pyromaniac. He also likes to play with fire.

LES was born in England and came to Australia in 1975. He’s been riding and repairing bikes since he was 16-years-old and reckons he’s owned more than 170 bikes in his life including many Yamahas, Hondas, Kawasakis, Suzukis, BSAs, Nortons, and Harley-Davidsons. Today, Les’s personal bike is a 1996 Softail Springer which has seen many custom touches. Most notably the Biblical paint job by Leanne Nesbit.

One of his favourite tricks, which never ceases to impress, is shooting flames out the back of his Springer. The home-made flame-thrower uses full flow LPG with after-burners. “I inject petrol, kero and shellite into each pipe at 126 psi. It can shoot flames 22 feet,” said Les. “I also let off a three-inch mortar by way of a button on the bike; the mortar reaches 200 ft in the air becoming a high fireworks display.”

Les said he’s also heavily involved with drag-racing. “I’ve built and piloted a drag-bike for about nine years but I’m still learning about nitro.”

He races under the name of Tribe Of Judah Racing which makes sense when you realise he’s been involved with the Tribe of Judah Motorcycle Ministries for many years.

He has a new drag-bike ready to go. His best time on his old one, at 114 cubic inches, is 7.8 seconds @ 150 mph over the 1/4 mile. “I’ll do better than that with my new bike,” he laughed. “It’s putting out 800 hp from its 186 cubic engine!”

Well, we guess with God on your side, you can do almost anything.
